The Garden School Path

The Garden School provides children with the opportunities that make them grow. Beginning in August we return to the classroom after a very busy summer. We gently begin to teach every day, but still take the children on plenty of field trips!

In September, we take a child's look at families; at who we are; what we want to be when we grow up; who are families are; what our parents do, and about our grandparents. We end the month with our
Family Day.
In October, we learn about Autumn, about change, about Columbus. We take a trip to the farm, build a bug collection, collect leaves and celebrate Halloween with a party.
In November, we work on our first fully costumed play. We learn about the Pilgrims, Native Americans, and about being Thankful.

In December, we learn about Christmas around the world. Children have a visit from Santa on our closing day of school.
In January, we return to school and talk about winter, the polar regions, and begin to study cultures around the world. We have an International Feast at lunch time for parents.
In February, we study relationships. We elect a Class President, we have a Valentine's Day Dance.

In March we have our big Spring Play. It's a muscial comedy about St. Patrick. The children sing Slithery Snake to the tune of Chattenooga Choo Choo!

In April, the children review all the songs they have learned and present a wonderful program for parents and grandparents. There is also a Scholastic Book Fair.
In May, children finish the school year and we have an awards day and picnic after.
In June and July we swim and enjoy field trips. Three times a week we take off for the pool or a long field trip. Check the field trip page to see where we go.
Parents are very involved here at The Garden School! We encourage you to participate in all you can! From field trips, to parties, to plays, your volunteer work is always appreciated!

All
teachers are trained in CPR and first aid.
Because of our work, we are very aware of children who seem ill.
Illness spread quickly among children, and in order to avoid epidemics,
we ask parents to cooperate with the Garden School ill child policies.
